‘Simplenote’ Review

Name: Simplenote

Developer: Codality

Price: Free (AppStore)

Rating: 4 / 5

I’ve been using Evernote ever since I first bought my iPhone and since then have had no problems with it. It syncs well and even has a desktop client, which makes taking notes and jotting ideas down a breeze. However since then, I’ve been typing quite a few (over 1000) notes and as a result was warned that if I do not upgrade to the premium package for £2.99/month I would not be able to upload any more notes to the server. Since then, I’ve been rummaging the AppStore in search of an application that provided the same functionality as Evernote, but without the upload limit...

Gameloft aren't particularly well-known for their sports titles, but with Let's Golf they keep up their reputation as one of the AppStore's greatest developers.  What could have helped them get through Let's Golf's success might be the laid-back cartoon-styled route.  Now they look as if they would like to add to their 'Real Sports' series for the iPhone by making a little trailer for 'Real Golf 2011'. Since the iPad has been released, Little White Bear Studios has released HD versions of their games TanZen and Compression. Now, another fan favorite is about to be released, an HD version of their game Zentomino.  It's simply a game where you piece pentominos, small shapes comprised of five "blocks," together to fill in a shape with no overlapping or empty areas. Production quality in Zentomino HD is phenomenal, with the graphics sharing the quality of TanZen HD. Controls use a simple tap and drag mechanic. Fans of it who griped about the low difficulty level with be ecstatic to hear that the levels are a lot more difficult. (more...)

Rovio, the developers of the ever-famous Angry Birds, have gained over 6 million downloads from the AppStore and Nokia's Ovi Store.  They're now aiming to expand that success over to several more types of media - one of which are movies.  Having been approached by a number of movie groups, the developers are taking a serious look into making an animated film of the extremely addictive game. It includes a few seconds of animation within the start of the game, and there's already a short cinematic trailer to show off what the story line could be - but will it make a good impression?  It will, of course, be a child's animated film, but if it ever does get made - I'll definitely want to see how it turns out.  Check out the cinematic trailer here: (more...)
zombie-highway
In every film based around zombies and the undead, there's always a scene where the characters drive down some sort of deserted highway whilst sever zombies are crawling all over the car.  Now the AppStore is going through a time where zombies are infesting the games, so why not implement both?  That's what renderPazStudios have thought - and seem to have successfully done so in Zombie Highway. ‘Stick Golf’ Review

Posted by Talal Amjad on 19th August, 2010

Name: Stick Golf

Developer: Noodlecake Games

Price: $0.99 (AppStore)

[rating:4/5]

It may just be me or something, but I find golf ridiculously boring and to be honest, a complete waste of time.  That was until, I played Stick Golf.  With its unique, yet simple controls and heart-warming graphics Stick Golf never ceases to amaze me! Ever since I heard about it from a friend, I’ve been hooked and playing the levels over and over again to beat my high score.

You swing your way through 108 holes in twelve unique courses, including one on the Moon and even one inside a volcano! Graphics-wise, the game matches its name with you being a stick figure and the landscape depicting a typical golf course – water, bunker & lava... The main objective of the game is to land the ball in the hole, so basically golf, in par or less. Now, for each hole, the par score is different based upon the difficulty of the overall hole. Just less than two months ago had Archetype hit the AppStore with booming sales, making it's name as one of the best online first-person shooters for the iPhone.  Whilst the maps were quite small upon launch, a couple of later updates bumped up the game to a much higher quality.  It supports a large team deathmatch consisting of 5 players per team.  You can use one of the few weapons left around the maps as you battle your way up the ranks over EDGE, 3G or WiFi. Earlier this month I had the chance to take a sneak peak at Craneballs Studio's side-scroller Monorace.  Whilst the concept is quite simple, I found the game surprisingly addictive.  You tap to jump from the bottom platform to the top whilst trying to dodge the bumps and spikes along the tracks.  The aim is to catch-up with the game's pace as the edge of the screen quickly catches you up. Gameloft look like they're busy making a few sequels lately,  for their rather successful titles in the AppStore.  Earlier we caught eye of Dungeon Hunter 2, then Gangstar: Miami Vindication and now Modern Combat 2.  Their teaser trailers also seem to be shifting into a new humorous style, featuring real cut-scenes and a few effects. Modern Combat: Sandstorm was the French publisher's famous take on cloning a Call of Duty title.  They polished it extremely well to deliver us one of the first true console feel for an iPhone and iPod touch. ‘MotoGP 2010′ Review

Posted by Novaro Thompson on 19th August, 2010

Name: MotoGP 2010

Developer: I-Play

Price: $3.99(App Store)

Overall Rating:

The App Store may be considered by some to be a very well rounded area when it comes to racing games. There are games available for the hardcore and the casual, for the car junkie and for the regular speeder. However if there is one definitive genre of racing games that is considerably lacking on the iPhone; that is the motorbike racing genre. The release of MotoGP 2010 however has changed this, whether for the good or bad though is yet to be seen but it should be noted that this is already your best choice because of the lack of other options. Let's begin with the good, if you are a real true and blue MotoGP fan then you've found the right game because MotoGP 2010 offers you everything you need to relive the 2010 season. You have all 17 riders that were in the competition, all 18 tracks that they raced on and 10 official different bikes. Honestly this is quite an exceptional feat and it would be hard for any other competing game to surpass this level when it comes to features. so if you always dream about using Valentino Rossi to win the Grand Prix World Championships on the iPhone then this is your chance.
